Divorce Court

On Wednesday, we met an attorney named Mr. Berman, who worked primarily in divorce court. We travelled to his office and to the Morristown court, where we got to see some mediation between the clients. Before a case gets to divorce court, it undergoes several rounds of mediation. As part of our internship, we got to review two divorce cases and see the mediation. For both cases, we got to see the lawyers from each side meet and discuss the possible solutions to disagreements between their clients. Then, the lawyers brought their clients in and explained what they had discussed earlier, in the hopes of getting their clients to agree to their solution. It was interesting to see how the lawyers interacted with other lawyers and with their clients, and it was nice to see how jovial and respectful everyone was of each other during mediation.
