Verizon

On Thursday, we visited the Verizon center in Basking Ridge to tour the grounds and met the different types of lawyers who worked there. Since Verizon is such a huge company, there were many people there who specialized in many different areas of law. Some of the lawyers who worked there were experts in economics, employee law, privacy, intellectual property, and many other areas of law. Economics lawyers have make sure that the company is not violating any financial guidelines and maintain the balance between the top executives of the company and the board of investors. Lawyers who specialize in employee law protect the company from employee lawsuits and attempt to protect employees from illegal practices such as discrimination by advising management inside the company. Privacy lawyers deal with matters that are considered to be breaches of privacy, which is especially important for a technology company. For example, the recent Cambridge Analytica and Facebook scandal was a matter of privacy law. Lastly, lawyers who specialize in intellectual property handle matters that deal with copyrights, trademarks, and other personal property.
